Strengthening Women Peacebuilders in South Asia

Over the past year and a half, Inclusive Security has held two highly successful, eight-day Training of Trainers workshops, to equip women leaders in South Asia to advocate for an increased role in peace and security decision making. In partnership with the UN Development Programme’s N-Peace Network—a regional initiative connecting 800 women leaders in Afghanistan, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Timor-Leste—we’ve trained 50 women leaders in our experiential learning methodology and supported them to design and implement trainings for women in their countries, in order to collectively advance this agenda.

Women’s Perspectives of Peace & Security, Volume 2, released recently by N-Peace, features reflections from the second group of training participants. Their unique and amazing stories range from convincing local government officials in the Philippines to prioritize women’s participation to increasing women’s involvement in the security forces in Timor-Leste. Each is a powerful example of women advancing peace in their communities. Over and over, we see these trainings support women to truly have a multiplier effect beyond the initial engagement.
