Communiqué: Women Shaping Peace in Sudan and South Sudan
In advance of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa from January 19 – 22, 2013, Inclusive Security gathered delegates of the Coalition of Women Leaders from Sudan and South Sudan to define their common priorities for the future, peaceful coexistence of their countries. In collaboration with technical experts and advisors to the peace process, the coalition reviewed the September 27, 2012 Cooperation Agreements and African Union High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan (AUHIP) Proposal on the Final Status of Abyei to identify gaps, challenges, and issues to further address in the agreements. This Communiqué outlines the women leaders’ shared concerns, calls for increased women’s inclusion in the implementation of the peace accords, and provides concrete recommendations for shaping the peace agenda in Sudan and South Sudan.
