VIDEO: A Right of Responsibility
In late February, 2012, Inclusive Security supported Libyan women to travel to Washington, DC, to advocate on an international stage for women’s rights in Libya. Alaa Murabit, a young activist who was born in Canada to Libyan immigrants and who later returned to Libya, provides a firsthand account of women’s roles during the Libyan Arab Spring. She credits women with being the backbone of their community before, during, and after the revolution. It was this call to action that inspired her to create the Voice of Libyan Women, an organization focused on strengthening women’s political participation during this transition to democracy.
